A Song and Prayer for Before Meals

As Christians, we need to be intentional about sanctifying our whole day to the Lord. A great place to start is by making the most of existing habits and rhythms, such as family mealtime.

My uncle Phil recently shared a clip of my cousin Blake leading a youth camp in singing “The Blessing” before a meal. I looked up the words and found the original song on which it is based. It’s set to the tune of the Doxology.

Be present at our table, Lord,
Be here and ev’ry where adored,
These mercies bless, and grant that we
May feast in Paradise with Thee.

Our family is going to start singing it before meals along with a prayer of grace:

Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts, which we are about to receive from your bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here’s a PDF that you can print and hang by your family table: “Grace at Meals.”
