A Prayer for Israel and Palestine

|

O God, our Refuge and Strength, Sovereign over all nations,

In the haunting aftermath of recent conflict in the Middle East, we turn to you in lament, seeking peace and hope in the shadow of sorrow. Our hearts grieve for the people of Israel and Palestine, entangled in the web of violence and uncertainty that plagues our fallen world. With aching hearts, we lift our prayers for your intervention, trusting in your boundless mercy and ultimate justice.

We pray for the vulnerable lives caught in the crossfire of brutality and senseless violence. Be their shield and stronghold (Psalm 18:2), comforting those who mourn. In the face of tragedy, let your Church be a beacon of light, offering solace, assistance, and the unwavering message of your love.

As we yearn for justice, we remember the words of Micah: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?: To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). May justice and mercy flow like a river, and humility guide the steps of all involved.

Grant wisdom to the leaders of Israel (Proverbs 2:6), that they may navigate these troubling events with discernment and compassion. Discredit all voices of extremism, exposing the folly of hatred and division. May your Spirit work to bring about reconciliation and understanding among the nations.

We implore the safe return of hostages. Be their comfort in distress and grant courage and wisdom to those working for their release. Surround them with your Spirit and reunite them with their loved ones.

For the leaders of nations, we seek your divine guidance (James 3:17). Let wisdom from above prevail, leading to paths of peace and reconciliation. May the international community work together to promote understanding and empathy, and seek solutions that honor the dignity of every human being.

In uncertainty, we hold to the assurance that your ways are higher than ours. There is no one else in whom we can place our trust but in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who taught us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5).

Through Jesus Christ, our compassionate and merciful Lord, who brings forth the dawn of His everlasting Kingdom, where peace and righteousness shall reign. Amen.
